Grandma Pfaltzgraff's Journal starting March 11, 1916

th - Fred did up my Sat. work this morning before I got up & then he went to Griswold to have the car fixed.  Baby was very good all day.  He did not get the car quite finished so he will have to go again.  He was home & cleaned the church for Sun.

th - We went to church.  I did not intend to go because baby had a slight rash.  But Mr. Schuler S.S. Supt. sent Fred back after me.  In the afternoon we went to F. Sundermans & to U.G. Weavers.  In the evening Fred went to church & I went to bed.

th - Fred & I got up at five o'clock & started to wash.  We had a big three weeks wash & were almost done at noon.  In the afternoon I sowed the hotbed.

th - Fred went to Atlantic to get his glasses & Baby & I stayed home.  Baby had a slight cold but I gave her some aconite & by this evening she was much better.  We just laid her in her little bed & she smiled us a good night & went to sleep all by herself.  She is surely a good darling.  Fred is ironing for me now. I mended about four pair of stockings today besides sending some announcements to the newspapers & some letters.

th - Fred & Baby & I went to the Ladies Aid at Knokes.  There were very many there.  We quilted one & half of another quilt.  Fred went to Griswold to have the car fixed & in the evening I stayed there & he went home to do the chores & then came back for supper & in the evening The Christian Work Dept. of the Y.P.A. met at Knokes.

th - I did a little ironing but was very tired.  Fred fixed his glasses in the forenoon & we cleaned the cellar & hung up some meat to smoke.  While we were cleaning the cabbagea down [in the] cellar, we overbalanced the door we used for a table & broke 3 gal. jars which made the cellar look like a "dump" ha. In the evening h.C. Schuler led Bible study. [We] were about to go out.  Ladies quart. practiced here after Bible study.

th - In the forenoon I ironed & Fred churned butter in a gal. pail.  He forgot to let the air out & the lid blew off & the cream all over him & the floor.  Baby sat there & looked as if she would have liked such a play thing.  We got 4 lbs. of butter & some butter milk.  int he afternoon we went to the W.M.S. there were six there then we drove to Lyman after oil & came home.

th - Fred helped me do the Sat. work & then we went calling.  We went to Mother Millers & to Knokes.

th - We went to church in the morning.  mrs. G.P. Schuler had her baby there and it cried as she brought it down here to the house.  In the afternoon I played the piano & then we all took a nap & then we got ready for church.  Baby slept all evening.

th - We went calling all day.  We went to Bors & Augmuellers & Hy. Bickings & Hy. Martens & H.L.Neltzs.

st - We went to Willisia or Taylor Co.  Fred preached on the way back we had a blowout.  We got that fixed & then we stopped at Warners who moved to town & then we came home.
